The showdown will mark Fresno's first appearance on the ice since capturing their fourth divisional title before the Western States Hockey League canceled the remaining playoff games due to COVID-19.
"The guys who were here last year felt like they were going to win a championship if they got the chance to go," Coach Key said. "We want to do what they couldn't do last year because of COVID-19. It would be awesome to bring home some hardware this year and get that championship we've always been chasing."
Key said this set of scrimmages will allow the Monsters' coaching staff to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the new additions to the team.
"We have a great group of new players that are competing hard in practice and they're working hard in the gym with Coach Bullett," he said. "We're really happy with the group that has come in and they're showing a lot of energy and enthusiasm."
"We also have a great group of veteran players helping us lead our team this year," he said. "They know the standard that we have to play at, not just at the end of the year but at practice and at the gym. So we're excited to have them pass that vision onto the younger guys as we strive to make a great first impression in the USPHL."
After this set of scrimmages, the Monsters will be traveling to San Diego to begin the regular season on Oct. 23rd.
