Pregame report: October 18, 2019

The Fresno Monsters travel south to take on the Valencia Flyers tonight at 7:15 p.m. PT at the Ice Station. Tune in on Black Dog Hockey and on Twitter for the action.

NOTES Friday's game is the first of the season between Fresno and Valencia. The teams will meet again for game 2 on Oct. 19.

The Monsters, who are coming off a four game loss in Vegas, have continued to build up their defense in the past couple of weeks and announced yesterday that they have acquired Max Karlenzig.

Karlenzig is a giant leap forward in the right direction for Fresno. The former Monster was a fan favorite with a .908 save percentage in a total of 42 games played including being credited with one assist.

KEYS TO THE GAME Strong third period: Epic comebacks are part of the Fresno Monsters' brand of hockey, but the third period has been a time when opponents have found flaws in Fresno's game-plan. Locking down the third period will help the Monsters against a hungry Valencia team.

Quick transitions: Fresno is known as a team that turns defense into offense quickly, however those transitions have been missing to the start of this season. All it will take for the Fresno Monsters to return to that style tonight is renewed confidence to make plays they've made in the past.
